Hello everybody,
While seeking for new information on Valensia through the Internet I found this forum. Nice that some people didn't forget him !
I discovered Valensia many years ago, through a video with him and Robby Valentine (that didn't impress me much, I must confess). I knew Valertine already although it was so hard to get his albums here in France. It took me years to actually listen to one of Valensia's albums, though.
I couldn't believe both Valentine and him were Dutch, fans of Queen to the point that they'd include elements of Queen in their music (something that is very rare), both were multi-instrumentalists and singers.. and even their names were similar !
I finally decided to dig Valensia in the last 4-5 years. I wanted to do it before but the albums are so hard to find - if you don't want to pay big amounts of money for Japanese imports, same with Valentine...
I write in a fanzine dedicated mostly to progressive rock and I am in touch with Lion Music who released the two Metal Majesty albums, and his Queen Tribute.
I bought all these to Lion Music then, and also "Gaia II" that they sold for a while. I also managed to find "The Blue Album" on Amazon.
I know most of his other albums now, though, including the two with Valentine. I stil lhope to find them for a decent price. and I'd love to see a new CD of course.
I am 42, live in France.
I couldn't sum up my musical tastes in a few minutes, I'm afraid, they're too wide. Let's say I'm primarily a progressive rock lover (yes, I confess it, although this is probably the most despised genre today !) who loves some melodic hard rock and heavy metal, classical and seventies sophisticated music - and many other things ! .
But Queen is definitey still one of my best-loved bands of all times, 30 years after I discovered them.
I was amazed at the quality of Valensia's tribute to them.
Glad to be here.

Thanks you very much, Petraps !
It seems everybody's awaiting some news from Valensia around here...
I read an interview where he seemed so fed up with record companies a couple of years ago... he said his fans should download his albums because they're so hard to find anyway..
I guess he doesn't need to make records to earn a living, maybe.
I hope he'll come back with some new music soon, though. It's so sad to see so many artists with some talent who're not "in the trend" and are not given the exposure they deserve.
Cheers - Marc |

Hello Marc ^^ welcome to the forum!
yeah, it says so on the back of the lyric-booklet of the blue album too :
"A big thank you to all my fans from all over the world. Guys, if you can't get your hands on this CD, then just download it from the net. Stupid recordcompanies."
Too bad it's necessary though.. His CD's should just be easier to buy all around the world.. _________________

Thank you, Jacky.
Yes, I had forgotten this suprising sentence was also written on the booklet of "The Blue Album" !
But this one, thanks to Amazon and their "martketplace" merchants, I could order it easily. Mine is an Escape Music release that went in Italy through Frontiers Records, I think.
Valentine did one record with Frontiers, 2 or 3 years ago (I'm not so fond of it, by the way) but I don't know why he didn't renew the collaboration, while Frontiers seem to have more and more renowned artists... They seem wiling to do decent packaging/booklets. But anyway, there are always artists who're happy with a record company and some others who are feeling completely the opposite...

Thank you Valensian.
Yes, I do like Kansas very much. My favourites are Point Of Know-Return, Song For America, Leftoverture, Masque, Monolith and Somewhere To Elsewhere, the one Livgren wrote for his ex-band members in 2000.
I've just bought the newly double CD expanded and remastered edition of Two For The Show.
I own every album they did, and I do enjoy Kerry Livgren's solo albums (even if I don't own them all... yet), especially "Seeds of Change". I was also very pleasantly surprised by his old band that he reformed, Proto-Kaw. The first album they did 4 years ago is magnificent.
Why this question, by the way ?
Thanks to you too for your warm welcome, Deie_Gaia and Fabri !
Marc

Oh, that's OK !
I corrected an album's title while re-reading all this... I always have got a problem not getting confused between the title of their album with the London Symphony Orchestra "Always Never The Same" and the title of the studio album they did afterwards (their last one until today by the way), "Somewhere To Elsewhere".
And what about you, what do you enjoy the most in Kansas ? I suppose you might like them ?
Cheers - Marc |

I love Kansas. The first time a listened to 'Point of Known Return' I was like... oh my god, these guys are geniuses! Steve Walsh, a great keyboardist and one of the best singers I've ever heard. I even bought a violin just to play Kansas songs.
The Pinnacle, Song for America, The Devil Game, The Wall, Closet Chronicles... AMAZING SONGS |

Thank you BadHorsie.
I've created a little Kansas thread in the appropriate section of the forums... Nice to see we share other common tastes than Valensia.
and some rather old stuff, on the top of that !! Well, Kansas is an old band but they did a few very good albums after the seventies and their music has stood the test of time perfectly in my opinion.
